Make a rating to let users assess contestants, things, or any other options. Create a simple rating or an advanced rating where the options are rated by several qualities.
The main steps are
- Create the rating and add the choices
- Adjust rating settings
- Finalize rating settings and launch
1. Create the rating and add the choices
Go to “contests” (1A) and click “create contest” (1B)
Choose “rating” (1C). Click on the cover image to change it (1D).
You can pick an image from the Choicely libraries, (1E) your images, or you can upload more images (1F). Click on the image you want to use (1G) and click “Select” (1H).
You can also use a cover video to introduce the voting: select it by clicking the Cover video toggle (1I).
Add a video URL or an embed code (1J).
Define the basic information for the vote: the name of the contest, introduction (1K), and start and end dates of the rating (1L). You can also set a publishing date for the results (1M). This date is used when you select the “Until reveal” option from “Show results” (1N) – we’ll come to this in more detail later.
Pick the dates and times from the schedule (1O). On the bottom of the screen you can add choices, for who or what to rate (1P).
Once again, you can pick images from the libraries or upload your own (1Q) – note that you can also upload multiple images and choices at once.
Sky’s the limit on what you can rate: people, things, places, images, and so on. Here we’ll talk about the options as ”choices”.
So, edit choices by clicking on them (1R).
There you can change the photo (1S), add more photos of the choice (1T) and a title (1U), which can be the name of the choice, a country or a number of the choice, for example. Write a short description for the choice as well (1U). You can also enter a link to a video that’s related to this choice (1U)
Edit the styles of how the choice is shown (1V), and add an article that shows below the rating option (1X).
By clicking “back to list” you will arrive at the list of choices (1Y).
Here you can change the order in which the choices are displayed in the rating by setting fixed numbers for the option (1Z).
Or you can base the order on popularity or a randomized order (1A2).
2. Adjust rating settings
On the right hand side you can adjust the settings of the rating.
You can choose if the rating is simple or advanced (2A).
In simple ratings users will only rate the option as a whole. For example, they could rate stadiums overall.
In advanced ratings users have more qualities to rate. For example, the users could rate the atmosphere, location and services of the stadiums.
Note that if you’re set out to create an advanced rating, it is best to set up your rating qualities as soon as possible – they can’t be edited after you’ve saved and published your rating for the first time.
Let’s first explore simple rating – advanced rating has most of the same settings.
You can define “Step size” (2B): users can give
- full stars only (One)
- also halves on top of full stars (Half)
- Quarters (like 1¼ or 2¾ )
- Fractions (like 4.1 or 3.2)
You can also determine
- if there’s a separate Submit button for the rating (2C)
- If the user is required to rate all participants (2D)
- If the user is allowed to rate without an account (2E)
Define when the results of your rating are shown (2F):
- “Always” shows the voting results at all times
- “Never” never shows the results
- “After vote” shows the results to the voter right after they have voted
- “Hide till the end” shows the results when the voting ends
- “Until reveal” shows the results on the publish date
If you have a public rating, you most likely want to reveal the results at the end of the rating. In that case, choose the “hidden till the end” option or “until reveal” after publishing the contest.
2. Advanced rating
In advanced rating, the users rate multiple qualities of the participant.
Add more qualities by clicking the “add another quality” button (2G).
Give the name for the quality (2H).
You can change the importance of each quality by dragging the sliders (2I); this affects the results on who wins the overall rating.
Click “publish contest” when you are ready (2J). Most of the settings of the rating are still editable after publishing the contest – apart from advanced rating qualities – just remember to save it when you make changes!
Users can start giving their ratings on the start date, and the rating ends on the end date. Your results will be published according to your choice in the “Show results” setting.
3. Publish the rating
Now it’s time to promote your rating!
Publish the rating in your app by adding it to a navigation.
You can also embed your rating to your website by going to the “widget” section (2K). Note, the “widget” section only appears after you have published your rating!
Scroll down the right menu to the “Embed Code” section (2L), and click to copy the embed code (2M) and paste it onto your website.
In this section you can also see how your contest looks, and you can change the look and feel in the “Theme” section of the right hand menu (2N).
You can see the results of your rating by going to the Contests list (2O). Find your contest and hover your mouse over its status, like “Running” in this example (2P). Click to go to the results Dashboard.
In this view (2Q), you can see results like total number of votes, percentages, and the numbers of free and paid votes.
You can also see the result by clicking the contest and then clicking “go to results” (2R).
Now you know how to create voting with Choicely!
