Create a vote

A good, fun-loving voting generates excitement among your community when people can decide who's the winner of your competition.

The main steps are

  1. Create the Voting and add Choices
  2. Adjust the settings of the vote
  3. Creating widgets and seeing the results

1. Create the Voting and add Choices

Go to “Contests” (1A) and click “Create Contest” (1B).

Then choose “voting” (1C). Click on the cover image to change it (1D).

You can pick an image from the Choicely libraries, your images, or you can upload more images (1E). Pick an image you want to use (1F).

You can also use a cover video to introduce the voting: select it from the Cover video tab (1G) and add a video URL or an embed code.

Define the basic information for the vote: the name of the contest, introduction (1I), and start and end dates of the voting. You can also define the date when the result of the vote can be published.

Pick the dates and times from the schedule (IJ).

On the bottom of the screen you can add choices, for who or what to vote (1K).

Sky’s the limit on what you can vote on: people, things, places, images, and so on. Here we’ll talk about the options as ”choices”.

So, edit choices by clicking on them (1L).

There you can add more photos of the choice (1M) and a title (1N), which can be the name of the choice, a country or a number of the choice, for example. Write a short description for the choice as well (1N).

You can also enter a link to a video that’s related to this choice (1O), edit the styles of how the choice is viewed (1O), and add an article that shows below the voting option (1O).

By clicking “back to list” you will arrive at the list of choices (1P).

Here you can change the order in which the choices are displayed in voting by setting fixed numbers for the option (1Q).

Or you can base the order on popularity or a randomized order (1R).

2. Adjust the settings of the vote

On the right hand side you can adjust the settings of the vote.

You can change how many free votes there are for each participant, and per contest (2A), and if votes can be canceled (2B).

You can customize the vote icon (2C), click the toggle on to enable this.

Edit the voting button, and the symbol for when voting has been completed. You can also edit the styles (2D).

You can also convert the voting buttons into text buttons. Put this setting on from the toggle, and define the texts that are shown (2E).

Change when results are shown (2F)

  • “Always” shows the voting results at all times
  • “Never” never shows the results
  • “After vote” shows the results to the voter right after they have voted
  • “Hide till the end” shows the results when the voting ends
  • “Until reveal” shows the results on the publish date

It’s recommended to choose the “Until reveal” option which shows the results on the publish date. If you want to publish the results manually when you’re ready, pick “Never” first, and then switch it to “Always” when you’re ready to publish the results.

You can also determine if voting is public or private (2G).

Click publish contest when you are ready. You can still edit the vote, just remember to update it (2H).

3. Creating widgets and seeing the results

Now you can start promoting your voting!

Add the vote to your app – check out “How to organize your app” tutorial to learn how.

You can also embed your vote to your website by going to the “widget” section (3A).

Scroll down the right menu, and click to copy the embed code (3B) and paste it onto your website.

In this section you can also see how your contest looks, and you can change the look and feel from the right menu (3C).

You can see the results of your vote by going to the Contests list (3D). Find your contest and hover your mouse over its status, like “Running” in this example (3E).

Click to the Dashboard (3F).

In this view (3G), you can see results like total number of votes, percentages, and the numbers of free and paid votes.

You can also see the result by clicking the contest and then clicking “go to results” (3H).

Now you know how to create voting with Choicely!

If you want to create a paid voting, please contact us. It requires defining payment settings in app stores. We’ll help you to set it up.
